Hey everyone! Sorry for the state of non-communication over this past year. Life has thrown me a few curve-balls from my own accident to losing my Nana to watching my dad battle stage 4 esophogial cancer having to put my dog to sleep to many other things. In the midst of this chaos, blogging has not been a priority. The post On Hiatus appeared first on Colleen's Kitchen. Sometimes the best recipes come out of necessity. For a long time, I saw life as a struggle, and thought that that was just how it was. I rebelled against what people thought of me through bold statements, loud outfits and the daring interiors I created. I tried to understand myself by challenging those around me. I always used to shape my own identity in opposition to someone or something, and defined myself through my relationships with people. And when I realised this, I was struck by a question that stumped me - who actually am I? Recently, I heard about a charity which helps orphans find their blood relatives and organises meetings for the children to talk to them, get to know them and learn about themselves in the process. But even this introduction gives the child a starting point. Something similar happened to me when I moved to the US. At first it felt like I had to choose one - Russia or America. For me, that was part of accepting myself: I stopped expecting people to judge me, praise me or admire me and stopped trying to get people to like me.
