We also explored various scenarios where it can be significantly cheaper to use dedicated servers instead of cloud services. Since you are still paying on a monthly basis then if you project the costs out over 1 to 3 years, you end up paying much more than it would have cost to outright purchase the hardware. This is where buying and co-locating your own hardware becomes a more attractive option. For dedicated instances, Amazon has a separate fee structure and on Rackspace you effectively have to get their largest instance type. Running our own hardware
Amazon EC2 resources fall under a few general billing categories. By default, the information is gathered from all Regions and displayed in the output. To run this automation, follow the instructions in Running a simple automation. In addition, terminate all Elastic Beanstalk environments. Note: Deleted, terminated, or released resources can't be recovered. Most AWS customers use only a few of these resources in one or two Regions. To see the Regions that have active resources, check your monthly bill in the Billing and Cost Management console.
Dedicated Hosts can help you address compliance requirements and reduce costs by allowing you to use your existing server-bound software licenses. When you launch instances on a Dedicated Host, the instances run on a physical server that is dedicated for your use. While Dedicated instances also run on dedicated hardware, Dedicated Hosts provide further visibility and control by allowing you to place your instances on a specific, physical server. This enables you to deploy instances using configurations that help address corporate compliance and regulatory requirements. You have the option to launch instances onto a specific Dedicated Host, or you can let Amazon EC2 place the instances automatically. Controlling instance placement allows you to deploy applications to address licensing, corporate compliance, and regulatory requirements.
